According to sources, Lionel Messi's Inter Miami will be invited to the Club World Cup

According to insiders who spoke to ESPN, Inter Miami will be named the final Major League Soccer team competing in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

In the upcoming week, the team's participation in the event is anticipated to be formally announced.

FIFA decided to expand the 2025 Club World Cup from its previous seven-team format, bringing in 32 clubs from around the world for the first time. Europe (UEFA) received 12 seats, South America (CONEMBOL) six, North America and the Caribbean (Concacaf), Asia (AFC) and Africa (CAF) four each, and Oceania (OFC) one, according to the world football governing body.

The majority of the participating teams, such as Real Madrid (2021–22 and 2023–24 UEFA Champions League Winners) and Manchester City (2022–23 UEFA Champions League Winners), have already been decided.

Concacaf will be represented by Monterrey (2021 Concacaf Champions Cup), Seattle Sounders (2022 Concacaf Champions Cup), León (2023 Concacaf Champions Cup), and Pachuca (2024 Concacaf Champions Cup).

However, because the United States will host the Club World Cup, Concacaf was awarded an extra invitation to the competition.

FIFA reserved the power to select the final Concacaf competitor, and Inter Miami, the 2024 Supporters' Shield champion, was given the ticket. During the July 24 All-Star game, MLS commissioner Don Garber disclosed that the league could only offer FIFA recommendations; it would not choose the player.

The South Florida team will now be led by Lionel Messi in the international competition, which will take place in locations across the US from June 15 to July 13, 2025.

Last month, FIFA announced that MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, would host the final in addition to naming the 12 host stadiums.

Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California, Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, GEODIS Park in Nashville, Tennessee, Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida, Inter&Co Stadium in Orlando, Florida, Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Lumen Field in Seattle, and Audi Field in Washington, D.C. will all be joining that venue shortly.
